Esta semana no me siento especialmente inspirado a escribir. No es que se me agoten las canciones, que no tenga nada que me motive, pero siempre busco algo un poco especial. Hoy me he decidido por una canción un tanto diferente, pero también en una línea del gritar por la libertad en estos momentos en que tanto es burlada. Me he acabado decidiendo por un personaje muy peculiar, Neil Young, un canadiense que se ha ganado un respeto durante su dilatadísima e imprevisible carrera musical. La canción que he elegido, tuvo su momento hace unos cuantos años, pero la sigo viendo muy adecuada para estos días. Rockin' In The Free World en una versión de 1991 del disco en directo Weld, con sus Crazy Horse. Incombustible como siempre, tampoco nos visitará este año, gira en locales pequeños que hace, porque según los promotores, los precios serían demasiado elevados.

Para la canción de esta semana, he empezado de un modo distinto. Estuve pensando bastante en que poner, y no encontraba nada, hasta que esta tarde, buscando alguna foto para poner en mi blog de noticias de los Stones, volví a ver la noticia de las 4 canciones que han prohibido tocar a los Stones en China, y me vino a la memoria que una de las 4 no es la primera vez que ha sufrido censura... Let's spend the night together es la canción en cuestión, que ya sufrió un curioso episodio de mutilación en el paraiso de la libertad (por llamarle de alguna forma, ahora que van de liberadores de tiranos) un lejano ya 13 de Enero de 1967.

En aquella época para salir por la tele, al igual que ahora, había que cuidar un poco las palabras, y fueron obligados a cambiar una parte de la letra de la canción, de forma que en lugar de decir "let's spend the night together" se quedó como "let's spend some time together", para evitar connotaciones sexuales, el mismo argumento esgrimido ahora por las autoridades chinas. En la versión que pongo, se escucha claramente en la letra el cambio que les tocó hacer, el 13 de Enero de 1.967 en el 'The Ed Sullivan Show' emisión en directo, fragmento recogido en el CD "Conquer America" (toda una ironía en estos momentos) y con el sonido de las fans enloquecidas que se oye muy bien.

Ya eran muy conocidos, Satisfaction ya llevaba un año de historia, y lo bueno del caso no es que tragaran sin más, porque aunque en el audio no se aprecie, viendo el video 25x5, donde comentan ellos mismos el caso, se ve claramente las caras que pone Mick Jagger al cantar, algo más hiriente sin duda para los criterios morales censores que las palabras en si. Este episodio recuerdo que también se nombra en la película The Doors, cuando les tocó pasar por el mismo programa, y les censuraron también. La escena la comentaban intentando convencerles de que si los Stones lo habían hecho, ellos también debían pasar por eso, sólo que Jim Morrison fué más pasota, y bueno, enseñó sus partes, en un incidente muy notorio en directo. Para esta semana, y como debut, aunque pueda sorprender, mi elección es una canción de Bob Dylan. Porque empezar con Bob Dylan? Pues lo primero porque esta cancion está en un doble CD que estos días es el que me acompaña en mi discman en los viajes de casa al curro y del curro a casa, y en él hay una canción que siempre me gustó, hace muchísimos años ya, y que sigue estando de plena actualidad.

La canción es Blowing in the Wind. Una canción que fué en su momento como un himno de todos los movimientos de los 60's. La versión que elijo, es una del concierto de homenaje a sus 30 años de su carrera, celebrado el 16 de Octubre del 92 en el madison Square garden de NYC . Esta versión es interpretada por Stevie Wonder, y hace una introducción muy buena, relatando como esta canción era en los 60 importante, lo era en los 70, y lo siguió siendo en los 80, y de hecho, en los 90 y ahora. Esta versión em pone los pelos de punta.
